Cab configuration sets your deck length
The single biggest factor in tray size is what is in front of the deck. A single cab gives you the longest deck on the same wheelbase, an extra cab trades some of it for a jump seat, and a dual cab gives up the most.
As a rough working range on standard-wheelbase utes: single cab decks usually land around 2400-2800mm long, extra cab around 2100-2400mm, and dual cab around 1800-2100mm. Width is typically 1780-1900mm on a general-purpose tray, limited by legal overall width and your mirrors.
Those are starting points, not gospel. Cab-chassis wheelbase, chassis rail spacing, spare wheel position and whether you are running a headboard, gullwing boxes or a canopy all move the numbers. We measure your actual ute before anything gets cut.

- Cab type: single, extra or dual cab sets the length you have left
- Wheelbase: long-wheelbase cab-chassis variants can add 300mm or more
- Rear overhang: how far past the rear axle you can legally and safely run
- Overall width: mirrors and legal width cap how wide the deck can go
- Underbody: spare wheel, fuel tanks, exhaust and towbar all need clearance
- Payload: a bigger deck is a heavier deck before you load anything on it

Tray sizing questions
What size tray fits a dual cab ute?
Most dual cab cab-chassis utes take a deck around 1800-2100mm long by 1800mm wide. Long-wheelbase variants take more. We measure the chassis before quoting rather than working off a catalogue number.
What size is an extra cab tray?
Extra cab decks typically run 2100-2400mm long on a standard wheelbase, sitting between single and dual cab. It is a popular middle ground for tradies who want a jump seat and still want deck length.
How wide can a ute tray be?
General-purpose trays are usually 1780-1900mm wide. Going wider means checking overall vehicle width against your mirrors and load, so we keep it sensible unless there is a reason not to.
Does a bigger tray reduce my payload?
Yes. Every extra millimetre of deck is tare weight you carry before you load a thing. Aluminium keeps it reasonable, but we still work the tare against your GVM and tell you the honest number.
